Empress-class Dreadnought

Blue Phantom ChroniclesCapital Ship - Dreadnought

The massive Empress was a dreadnought build during the UPA's struggle against the renegade Task Force Warrior. Measuring over 4 km in length it was supposed lead the UPMF Forces against the rogue Supreme Battlecruiser, combining Briceran, Sinicyan, Cophuranee and Dhilani technology into a fearsome but compact warship, which in theory could easily stand up to larger dreadnoughts like the SBC Warrior.

Dev notes & Origins

The ship's design is derived from an early concept for a cophuranee cruiser.

It temporarily doubled as a placeholder model for the Jango-class Battlecruiser from one of the Battle Threads, and would have been over 7 km in length.

History & Involvement

During and after the Task Force Warrior crisis, a total of 2 Empress-class Dreadnoughts was built:

SMA Empress (Released/Retired 2532):

The first Empress-class Dreadnought was designed and built after the desastrous loss the Inferno II to the renegade Task Force: Warrior. The huge dreadnought measures over 4 kilometers from bow to stern and was built under joined efforts by Sinician, Khetarian and Briceran engineers.

In hindsight building this ship was considered by many to have been an act of desparation. Unlike other dreadnoughts like the SBC Warrior, whose construction had taken several years for the sake of thoroughness and quality, the Empress' construction had been rushed through a critical 11 months in order to provide a quick solution against the strengthening rebellion. As a result the Empress' launch suffered  from numerous technical failures and integrity disruptions, which left the ship dead in the water, never being actively deployed in combat situation and instead stationed as token guardian above the Sinican homeworld, a sad reminder of the UPMF's greatest failure.

SMA Hera (Destroyed 2540):

Several years later, the disgraced former UPMF Supreme Commander Alyn Yadrec would secretly commission the construction of a second Empress-class, which under the name Hera would face off against the still young Phoenix Systems Alliance in the Battle for Adminis. While this time construction had not been rushed and the fatal flaws of the the ship's earlier incarnation had been eradicated, the Hera and her fleet were still overpowered by the PSA's forces and forced to withdraw. Driven by rage Yadrec initiated the ship's self-destruction and was as such able to score a smal triiumph: The ensueing explosion was powerful enough to severely damage the PSA flagship Warrior so that it, too, had to be abandoned.
